Dear Mr Alder,
Thank you for your letter dated 12 February, received today. I have already heard from Mr Dunlevy, and he has just heard from me.
As a frequent flyer on MCA airlines, I have got used to the delays; it's your mid-air manoeuvres that really get me down. In fact, if you were ever to respond on time, I think I might get rather stressed - fretting about the possibility that you might, for once, have a non-disclosable leg to stand on.
However, it does help when you let me know in advance that you need more time - and yes, a response by the Ides of March would be fine.
