Thank you for your letter of 12 April. I did appreciate your prompt reply and have read what you say with interest.

What you wrote was very much in line with what I would have expected: confirmation that due process had been fully observed. What I missed was any evidence of your awareness that the declaration of an interest in the stockmarket to compare with your interest in golf might seem completely unexceptional and quite proper within your own professional and social circle, but might be perceived by a wider public in a very different light.
