When we met recently, I said I would get back to
you about what I see as problems with antidepressants of the Valium kind. I have now been
able to think about the matters explained in your letter of 23
June, (Ref 21738/98), and have prepared a note (enclosed)
which is shortly to be posted on our website. I hope you will feel able to inform me
promptly if you disagree with any of the following interpretations; I would be happy to
elaborate.
In your letter you mention that the new warning proposed by the
CPMP has been transmitted to the European Commission for decision. I would be grateful if
could you let me know specifically which Commission office is dealing with this matter,
also whether there exists any form of appeal or review mechanism beyond this.
