28 December 1998
Dear Mr Alder,
Thank you for your letter of 23 December with enclosures. Christmas wouldn't have been the same without them.
You will appreciate that I have not had as much time as I would have liked to study the issue. I have nevertheless drafted notes on some matters arising, and I hope these will be of interest and use to you and your colleagues. Please refer to our website entry dated today.
I look forward to getting the further materials you mention, now overdue. In the meantime, please may I request a copy of the Minutes (expurgated) of the first meeting in 1998 of the CSM's Sub-Committee on Pharmacovigilance.
True there was a lot of information in the papers you sent me - but no, I do not appreciate that it involved undue effort to get copies of them to me. Stuff like this should be on your website. If the Agency were serious about openness and accountability, it would routinely edit documentation of this kind, for public consumption.
In the meantime, I should like to place a standing order under the Code of Practice for copies of all CSM (expurgated) minutes of meetings held in 1999. Would you also please quote me for supplying copies of all CSM (expurgated) minutes of meetings held in 1998?
Happy New Year to you. I hope you are not too dismayed at the certain prospect of remaining closely in touch.
