I have been taking 20mg Seroxat "on and off" for nearly 10years to cope with a terrifying and debilitating anxiety and Depression. For the past 8 years I have been on them constantly, although a couple of years ago I reduced the dose to 10mg daily as I was trying to come off them. After about 8months of 10mg daily my GP suggested that I return to 20mg daily as, although the severe anxiety had stopped, I still felt unhappy constantly.

I have to say that I do feel well when "on" the 20mg tablets, and because I've been on them for so long, the usual side-effects (sweating, low libido, humming in my head etc.) have all but disappeared.

Work is going well; I have a very happy marriage; we have a lovely house with great neighbours in a beautiful part of the country- and for the first time in years I feel as though I can now stop taking the tablets. To be honest I feel great.

So a few days ago I decided to reduce the dose to 10mg daily for a couple of months to see how I get on. I have a bit of an upset stomach (not too bad);I feel a little dizzy and quite hot and sweaty. I also have a head full of mucous! I know from experience a couple of years ago that the side-effects should go-away within a couple of weeks or so, and I reckon I can cope. Just need to immerse myself in my work (I'm an artist) and try to ignore them. I'm trying to build up my serotonin levels in other ways to compensate: A few weeks ago I bought a very large, very fast motorcycle which, weather permitting, I try and get out on daily. I swear it's the best anti-depressant known to Man!! The feeling of freedom and exhilaration is so great that I just can't help laughing out loud when riding, and upon returning home I'm on a natural "high" for the rest of the day.

Seroxat- who needs it?!

(But I'll let you know in a couple of months...)

Chris.
