Hi Joan, I don't know too much about testing serotonin levels although i have heard of some methods. What i do know is that there are many natural ways to boost your serotonin levels. One is too eat lots of foods high in Omega 3 fatty acids - so lots of fresh water fish, nuts and seeds. You can either eat these foods and/or take fish oil supplements or flaxseed oil (if you would rather not eat anything derived from fish) It would also help to supplement these with some spiralina. There are also some supplements on the market that are designed to help the production of serotonin. 5-HTP raises serotonin levels by enhancing the synthesis of new serotonin molecules. 5-HTP is the intermediate step between the essential amino acid - Tryptophan and serotonin. So, taking these supplements should help your serotonin levels increase. Unfortunately they do not work as fast as the SSRI's like Paxil, Prozac etc, but they come with fewer side effects. I have been on them for a few months- came off them recently and only suffered a headache for a day or so.... Hope this information helps. Do go and see someone at a health shop because they will know a whole lot more than i do on the subject. Good luck
