After being on Effexor XR 150 mg. for about 2 years, my Doctor in his infinite wisdom stopped me cold turkey. I questioned him about titrating down, but he insisted this was ok to stop. The first day, had some dizziness, but by the second day without, I was so dizzy I could hardly function, had extreme bouts of crying. And I was at work. By the third day I could not go to work, had dizziness, nausea and vomiting, hot one minute and freezing cold the next and I could not stop crying at all. Spent most of the day in a fetal position crying. I went to the ER that night and every doctor I saw there asked me WHY did he stop cold turkey? They gave me something for the enormous headache and for the vomiting. By the next day I was somewhat better and fairly great the next day. Now I'm in day 6 without and the dizziness is returning, almost panic attacks. And I have to return to work tomorrow. Funny, I work in a Doctor's office and they all questioned the cold turkey thing, too. This is a horrible drug and anyone going on it should be very much educated on all possible side effects before ever trying it. And by all means: DO NOT go off it all at once. Question your doctor and be firm about titrating off, not just stopping. I think this is going to be a few weeks of hell for me and I don't want any one else to have to go through this. Coleen
