I do so understand what you all are going through and my heart goes out to you. I still have those horrible brain zaps every day. I take Zoloft and Zanaflex (a non-addictive muscle relaxer). I can read my body like a clock and don't even need to look at my watch to know when it is time for my meds. Those horrible electrical brain-shocks start and don't stop until the current dose of medication is in my system. Nobody can tell me whether this is permanent damage or not. It has been seven and a half months since my last Effexor. Like Lisa, I took Effexor (started out slowly and built my way up) along with the Topamax. But due to the side effects of the Effexor, I had to wean off and here I am, still having the brain shocks and horrible anxiety. Wheh you as your doctor straightway if the dumb pills are addictive or habit forming and if one must withdraw and the answer is no, no and no, then you go through a withdrawal so horrible that that you could not describe it to anyone if you had to, something is wrong. Then when you call Wyeth Ayerst, the make of Effexor and its pharmaceutical dept. and ask them how "long" will these horrible feeling/symptoms go on and on and on ? They just sweetly tell you, "I don't know, we really can't say for sure". I am angry, thank you for letting me say my piece.
