I tried quitting Effexor twice on my own, once cold turkey, and once tapering off by skipping days. I was not successful either time. My current attemt started two months ago on my doctor's advise. I dropped down from 300mg daily to 225 for one week, down to 150 for one week, 75 for one week, 37.5 for one week, 15 for one week, then totally off. I started taking Remeron at 15 mg for the first two weeks, then went up to 30 mg. The side effects that are the most troubling, on a daily basis, are the "brain tremors" or "shocks" where you feel dizzy and disoriented and the physical pain (mine has been in my back and neck) The other withdrawal problem I have had (and I have experienced this all three times) is the uterine contractions. Each time, they have gone on for about six hours. So far, I haven't had anyone else comment on whether or not they experienced this, but I can tell you that I was unable to function during these times. I'll be watching for your postings, Good Luck!
