I am so glad to see that this is what I am going through. In other words, it's not just all in my head. I have been pretty much in my house for 3 weeks now and the "fits" are getting better. I will show my husband this page and the comments. He is beginning to think that it is just my depression getting to me or this sickness is all in my head. He's frustrated and exasperated and so am I. I've been telling him the truth about how I feel but I didn't know why I felt more sick than ever before in my life. Since I couldn't explain it completely I guess he began to not believe me. I am, or should say was, feeling better mentally and wanted to stop taking my Celexa (citalopram). I wanted to be free of any drug for our 2 week vacation to visit the desert and the US Southwest. Well, since I did this 3 weeks prior to my vacation time, I was too sick to go. In fact, I was too sick to even get out of bed to go to the bathroom for a few days at first!! This withdrawal is hell on earth, both mentally and physically. I am feeling better mentally now in my 3rd week of this hell, but physically I'm not good. My normally clean house is a disaster area, I have had to have people fill in for me at work, I didn't go on the vacation I've wanted to go on since a child, weeds are HUGE and rampant in my prized gardens, my husband and I are arguing about my illness with all the energy I have left....and this citalopram was supposed to make me see life in a better light again? Things are much worse around here than they were when I started the citalopram. I hope to God this pain ends soon because I don't know how much longer I can take it!! I will say that the citalopram worked to help my depression while I was on it but my 1st Doctor was too ignorant to tell me about the possible withdrawal symptoms. I have a recently new Doctor who I will see in 2 days. When I spoke to her she said that,YES, citalopram does cause severe withdrwal symptoms if you stop it without weaning down slowly. I think I will like this Doctor, as she seems much more honest and better educated. If you do need an antidepressant, find an honest helpful Doctor and you will be OK!!
