After about 15 years on HRT my doctor had me quit taking them. The result was 15-25 hot flashes per day, inability to sleep etc. My doctor has had me taking Effexor for 6 months (150 mg.) Since I still have 6-10 hot flashes a day I decided to quit taking the Effexor. I was off it just 2 days and felt awful. I had buzzing in my ears, extreme fatigue, nausea and dizziness. I had no idea there were side effects like this. I'd much rather take the hormones!!
