I have been on Effexor for one year and I am weaning off. I was taking 75mg a day and now I've been on 37.5 for a week. I am dizzy, sleepy, having headaches, but fortunately no brain zaps. I don't like this drug. I took it for anxiety, and even when my anxiety did get better, I always had side effects (dizzy, nausea).

About two weeks ago, while I was still on 75mg I ran out of pills and I tried to stop cold turkey. After two days I was sweating, vomiting, nausea, dizziness, etc... I couldn't work. So now I am trying to wean off. So far, it feels terrible but it is manageable and I am able to function. In four or five days I will go down to nothing and I hope I am fine.

I took Paxil for three years about six years ago. I had no side effects while taking Paxil but the withdrawl effects were pretty bad too. Back then the worst part were the brain zaps (which I don't get with Effexor). If I had to choose one, though, I would take Paxil again.

Oh, and I gained about 15 lbs. with Effexor in one year. All of a sudden, in a matter of three weeks. I am exercising a lot and not losing any weight. I am actually still gaining.
